The game features great gameplay and the app’s bugs and issues have since been fixed I have experienced NO CRASHES, NO ISSUES and I’ve gone through several campaigns and nations. Thank you Aspyr and please make civ 7 EVEN BETTER!

I don’t know what happened to this game. I used to be able to play it no problem, now it crashes every time I play after a few turns. Super annoyed. I was going to play through one last time before the new one. I plan to buy/play via Steam this time around since Apple Store is inferior for games like this.
do not buy on here, ripping you off
I've tried running the game 3 times and it crashes within 5 min. Unfortunate.
This version didn't run a multiplayer mode. Looks like this was an issue for a while. Like this game but I purchased it to be able to play with my friends
Love the Game BUT I literally bought a MAC to play with my girlfriend on a compatible device since its not cross platform annoy to find out that ‘LAN’ multiplayer is simply broken from a new version update and Aspyr simply won’t fix it cause they’re full of it
This is so bad. I haven’t actually been able to play the game on my Mac in over a year. They just can’t figure out graphical basics like multiple monitors and HiDPI. I’m guessing there’s nobody on the Mac engineering team with any graphics experience.
Highly encourage any new player to buy on Steam instead of App Store. You can not mod this, I have had past issues with purchases disappearing; just generally the Apple ecosystem for a game like this is not a good one to invest in.
Awful, where is Persian empire?
I am glad that it is now playable on apple silicon without rosetta. So good job to the guys bringing this game to Mac. I will bump the score up to two stars. I wish Firaxis would just develop for Mac but at least we have aspyre. Right now the game is unfortunately unplayable on a non main monitor even if you tell the Mac to treat that as your main monitor. So using an external monitor on a MacBook doesn’t work and using AVP as a monitor for Mac doesn’t work. There is something weird going on where buttons don’t visually show up even if they are there and you have to click far below them and sometime offset either to the right or left. And this isn’t just me, you can find people talking about it. Also this happens both on a Mac mini and on a MacBook so it isn’t just my machine. I think if that issue is fixed this would bump up to a 4 or 5 out of 5 stars game. The core Civ 6 game is amazing. The fact that it is unplayable on a second monitor breaks the experience though.
Update: For anyone looking to purchase this from the App Store, according to the Aspyre site, you can only play multiplayer with Microsoft users if you are using Steam: “Q: Can Mac and Windows play multiplayer together? A: Steam users can play online multiplayer together when these version are in sync. Crossplay between Mac Steam and the Epic Games Store is not supported." Downloaded it on two systems so my son and I could play each other. Can’t set up multiplayer game on my end (Mac) or join any multiplayer game he creates (PC). Defeats the whole intent of this purchase. Not sure but looks like its another knock against using Mac in a Microsoft world.
This really is such a disappointment that it is hard to put into words. The multiplayer doesn't work, so I have not be able to play a single game. I am trying to get a refund. Great intro video. I guess they put all their effort into that, rather that creating a functional game. Terrible. I wish I could go back to Civ III or IV
Civilization VI continues to persistently crashes on macOS with no workable fix available. This is a widespread issue that has been reported by numerous Mac users online. This is negligence on behalf of the Civilization VI developers, given the high prevalence and longstanding nature of this show-stopping bug.
This is the first version of this game that I have a problem running it. Haven’t been able to complete a game without the screen freezing. At first I had to reposer the computer and the game would continue, but now it freezes and U can no longer play at all.
I reported this game broken two months ago. For the first time since the release of Civ VI, Aspyr has not fixed a problem with this version. I see that they are now hawking Civ VII. I fear this means they have now dropped VI. Not to gripe but I do wonder about the use of the App Store to Apple’s customers when so many applications sold on it are brazenly out-of-date junk.
Cannot get Graphic to work well on MacBook Pro M1 / Sequoia. Send a request to support 21 days ago. No reply !
When it works, it seems like it would be fun but I literally have to restart every 3-8 turns. I am able to play World of Warcraft for 8 hours straight with no issues and I see many other reviews saying the same thing. Very frustrating and I cannot even get a refund for a game that is unusable!
Running this works fine, but every time I try to load into a game it crashes on my M1 Max Macbook Pro.
Running OS Sonoma on an M3 power book OS is up to date. Civ 1.4.6 crashes at random intervals. Only possible to play if you save every other turn or so. Civ 1.4.5 did not have this issue. Regret upgrade. Not fun, so please fix.
Appears that LAN multiplayer been broken on and off. please fix for Mac Appstore version.
el juego en si calienta mucho la macbook, lo que hace que en cualquier momento de repente se cierre el juego, y tambien por mas que yo inicie secion en el menu del juego, estando ya en el juego no me deja jugaren modo multijugador.
I can get to my second city being built, then it crashes every time
On an M1 macbook pro with v1.4.6, the app will frequently exit unexpectedly, which is pretty frustrating!
this game is so un with so many layers definately worth the money
If the game worked even remotely close to the windows version, it'd be great. However, local multiplayer doesn't work, battery and processor use is terrible (likely due to emulation instead of native rewrite), and support for Mac version is non-existant (try searching for help yourself, you'll see what I mean). Too bad they missed the mark on this one, would have been great if they made an actual Mac version of this game. Also, it requires Rosetta 2, which shows their committment to keeping this game current.
Purchased this game as one of the first things I did when buying my new mac laptop 18 months ago. I have never once been able to get it to work past the loading screen. I have been unable to get a refund for a game I can't even play. If I could give zero stars I would
Since updating, I can not longer create local multiplayer games. When I click on the "confirm settings" button, nothing happens. My son who had not yet upgraded was still able to create local games, which I could see, but could not join as our versions of the game didn't match. After my son upgraded, he also could no longer create local games. Looking online, it seems that this has been an issue for over a year. I wish I would have known before updating the software. Over a year and still an issue. It looks like Aspyr Media has no intention of fixing this. This was a 5-6 star game, but now that multiplayer is broken, I'll likely uninstall it.
Doesn't work on touchbar M2. Had the same problem after original purchase. I tried deleting and reinstalling. No way to request refund and Aspyr help site is useless. What a scam.
I love this game, I have more than 3000 hours played on the windows version. The Mac version is a disaster. Sometimes I can play for an hour, other times for 20min but everytime the game crashes my entire machine forcing a reboot.
Not sure why the font size is so small. I can't play without getting a massive headache. I am running a 15 inch macbook air M3
This game is broken in the most recent versions of the MacBook. Everything is tiny, and I can't click on anything to see if there are settings to fix it.
Local Area Network games are broken. Don't buy this game if you want to play with friends. I regret buying this game. It was a waste of money.
Great game, graphics and gameplay. I used to enjoy playing local LAN games with my son but with the latest update, that function is no longer working as others have described.
This is an expensive game and the multiplayer hasnt been working for ever. Do better. I want a refund.
The game I bought for $60 has no sound, it’s rubbish!
This game is incredible. Jus, purely, incredible. And this is not a paid review. This game, from the graphics, to the cutscenes, to the leaders, is amazing. Although it's expensive, it is worth it, and I guarrentee it will make your brain click like no other game before. Truelly exceptional. - A Random Narwhal Lover P.S. Donate a dollar to team trees.
where's multiplayer cross-play?
Lost all of my purchased version upgrades. I can't access any of them. No one is responding. Terrible
I've played CIv games from way back and spent many long hours enjoying them. This version was a major disappointment! I feel I wasted my money and will never buy another game from Aspyr Media again. The programmers slowed things down with all the visual fluff at the cost of workable interface and function. In addition, I don't understand why I have to have my time wasted viewing splash screens every time I run the game.
This has been a long running issue and it's unbelievable that it hasn't been fixed. For some reason the mac version doesn't allow you to create or join multiplayer local network games.
Love the game overall, it's been a family favorite for some time. That's then the problem - starting local network games has been hugely hit or miss between updates. Sometimes works between two Macs but not the third despite all the same version. With the most recent updates, now none of our Macs are able to create a new local network game. Please help resolve, and then leave the game alone!
It's a game. A turn based strategy game of explore and build and conquer. That's about it. Nothing special anymore, no depth, no soul; requires lot's of computing power to run, and even then it's frustratingly slow to play.
I just downloaded this game and it won't let me do local multiplayer. I also can't do online multiplayer and it seems to not connect to game center properly. Very bad first experience.
I play this game all time. If you like stategy games, that next turn will grab you in Civ 6. Before you know it, it is the next morning. Balance can be an issue with the AI on some leaders. I would rate this game MUCH higher if I didn't have to work around some issues. Issue one, buying the download content. I do have all the content. You can't get to the content normally. I found that if you turn on accessiblity and use voice over. You can tab to the content you'd like to buy and then click return to buy the content. Issue two, stucking at loading screen when creating a game or opening a save file. I don't know why. I am on a laptop. If I disconnect from power and use on battery. I can open and create games. you can play with the power plugged in. I am still on Monterey with a 2016 Macbook Pro 13 inch. Update: Newest version has fixed all issues on my setup. Games works and is using less processing power to boot. Longer play on battery. Win win.. nice update. Updated the star rating from 3 to 5 Update 10-14-2023 Lowered the rating some. As of the newest release, on the splash screen. You're purchased content will not appear. The good side is if you open the extra modules after launching the game. You'll see that all your content is enabled. Don't have a heart attack if you don't see the purchased content. I lowered the rating due to the newest version is using more system resources. In a typical game with nothing else running. The RAM in use now hovers around 12GB (5.7 for the system). For those with 8GB, you may see slow downs. Processor is use is up by 15% and the fans will blow at max speed. Still like the game and recommend but be ready for the resources needed.
I have a new Mac Air running Ventura. After four or five long sessions I simply gave up. No clue at all how the touchpad controls or keys are supposed to work, no useful help menus beyond the obvious key bindings, no useful information from many Google searches. Desperately needs Mac-oriented instructions.
I have purchased multiple leader packs and two of the expansions. As of today, the game will no longer let me access any of it. When I hit "Restore Purchases", I get a notification that my "In-App Purchases have been restored." But they haven't. Give me my money back. Don't buy this game.
Game is great and working smoothly for the first 30 minutes, after that you'll need to deal with crushes and problem that support just can't resolve and will left you without any answer and solution with the purchased game that doesn't working. Big thanks to the developers for such a buggy game, that was my last time I bought your games. Chao
clicking on single player imediately sends me to multiplayder and afectively locks up the compuiter! With this an example of Apple verification of app and their use of "editors choice" I will never purchase an app from the store again
It's really pretty. Lots of time was obviously spent on the leaders and the map graphics and such. It's really impressive. But it is so broken, I find myself wondering if the developers play it. Things missing: Keyboard shortcuts for unit actions. There's no movement via the keypad, no hotkeys for unit relocation, ranged attacks, or alert. Everything is done with the mouse now, and using the mouse for everything is tiring. Next action needed to be taken is done with ENTER/RETURN, but closing most other screens is done with escape. The leader screens are nice, but I've seen them a few hundred times now and wish I could escape out of them quicker, or myabe turn a few of them off. When I'm playing for a domincation victory, I really don't care when or how often I get denounced. Bugs I suffer: - When auto end turn mode is on, and the last thing that needs to be done is selecting envoy locations, the game will end your turn automatically so you can't select your envoys until it is your turn again. - When "city attack blocking" is on, it will ask you to have your cities attack before ending your turn, but will not do so for encampment attacks - The next unit selection will often times not select the next unit that still has moves. - Similary, the until will remain highlighted even when your turn is over, which is confusing - Any unit that "wakes up" from being fortified, fortified until healed, or alert, MUST move on that turn, you can't skip their turn (this has caused a couple of units to have to be killed when moved out of cities into zone of control and get pouncd on by sieging enemy units - Sometimes units will move into a spot where they won't be woken up by the "next unit needs command" rotation. Such units will sit in their spot until you notice them and move them out. Often this happens when a piece of land is on the coast and surrounded by 4 hexes of ocean. But I've also had it happen in the middle of continents. There's always one spot in every map that does this. - On roughtly every third game, on a specific turn, the game will crash to desktop with a segfault. Even if I go back to the earliest autosave and do completely different things, it still happens on that same turn. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, or could do differently, if anything. Support says they think this has something to do with Spies taking some action at the end of their mission against you, but they've never been able to duplicate it for themselves. - Archeologists create artifacts, but when you have a choice, one of the choices has a leader/city name on it, and the other is blank. If you choose the blank one, it goes into the museum, but still shows that it came from blank. Kinda hard to group things by civilization when the civilization is blank for half the finds. - In full resolution on 4k monitors, the settings are not completely displayed. Some options show as blank. The mouse doesn't align with the screen elements so you can't even change the game resolution because you can't click the button at the bottom. - In windowed mode, the window always moves to the screen (space) the main menu bar is on. In my case, this is the worse possible monitor to try to play on. I've reported all of this to Aspyr support, in good faith. For their part, they've acknowledged the spy crash thing, and they've seen the some of the things in my save files, but are unable to reporduce them there. I have these failures on both my old MacPro, a Thunderbolt 2 MacBookPro, and the last Thunderbolt 3 MacBookPro.
